About Us

We are a ministry of Cru (formerly Campus Crusades for Christ) which is "a Christian organization founded by Bill and Vonette Bright in 1951 on the UCLA Campus."1  Since 1951, thousands of Cru movements have started on college campuses across the nation and since then made its way to the islands where the movement began on O'ahu at the UH Manoa campus.

Throughout the decades dedicated staff, leaders and students have transformed many lives and while the movement continues to change over time one thing has remained the same, Hawai'i Cru continues to "fulfill the Great Commission in the power of the Holy Spirit by winning (all students) to faith in Jesus Christ, building them in their faith and sending them to win and build others; and helping the Body of Christ do evangelism and discipleship."1

The Hawai'i movement is part of the Epic Movement ministry of Cru; while the majority of Epic Movements across the nation have a primary focus of building Asian-Americans to have "Christ-centered movements that are culturally meaningful and significant,"2 our movement continues to reach students of all backgrounds, while also using resources created by Epic Movement to reach pockets of our students where bridging culture and the Gospel is needed.

With Hawai'i being a melting pot of cultures, our campus and in turn, our movement, also reflects the make up of the Hawaiian Islands - to name a few: Locals with Asian culture influence, Mainlanders, Internationals and Military.  With diverse groups of students coming together, the Hawai'i Cru movement uses a mixture of resources that allows our leaders to reach students effectively.  As a movement we are excited to continue to send students to conferences and mission trips headed by all the different networks of the campus ministries of Cru.3
